Tour of Boston; AKA: Boy, do our feet hurt (June 29th, 2008)

We slept in a little Sunday morning because we were just so tired from being out late. Had some breakfast and looked over the ferry boat schedule that goes right into Boston. We decided that it would be easier with the kids and more exciting to park and ride the ferry boat into Boston. We had directions to the dock and we were on our way. Somehow we managed to end up in the parking garage for the subway and not the ferry boat sooooo we took the subway into Boston. It all worked out and the kids were just as excited to ride the subway.

Got off the subway at the Boston Commons and found our way through that to the Public Gardens and to the Swan Boats. We took a nice and relaxing ride on the swan boats. Finished our walk through the gardens and next to the Prudential Center to buy our Duck Tour tickets. We discovered that the Prudential Center was a mall inside with a really yummy food court, which we so needed after the huge hike across Boston to get the tickets. Since our tour wasn't until 7:00 that night (the rest were sold out) we decided to go to Faneuil Hall. On our way to Faneuil Hall we stopped back at the Public Gardens to check out the "Make Way for Ducklings" statues based on the book.

Faneuil Hall has shopping, vendors, and street performers. It is non-stop action. When we first got there, we watched a group of guys dance and do all sorts of jumps and stunts. Then we shopped a bit. A guy dressed up like a clown was making any kind of balloon animal you would ask for while singing. Right next to him was a guy playing the drums on all sorts of household objects. Dave went and got coffee for us while the girls and I were sang to in Italian and Syd got a bear in a heart and Tatum asked for a monkey. She not only got a monkey, but got the tree and then the banana to go with it. It was hilarious. Every time we thought he was done we kept getting called back to get more balloons.

We then realize it is time to start the long hike back to the Prudential Center for our Duck tour of Boston. We are walking and walking and start to feel a few raindrops, next downpour. I hurry the kids under the nearest tree and pull out the two super cheap ponchos we have in the backpack while Dave tries to see if there is any store nearby for umbrellas. We had two, but they were taken at Gillette Stadium because you can't have them there. Of course we realize it is Sunday evening at 6:30 and not much is open where we are standing. We run for a bit and hide in the entrance to a store.

We look at the tickets to the Duck tour to see what they say and find out that they go rain or shine so we decide to go. Dave and I are soaked. It is thundering lightning a bit. I now realize as I am trying to grab Tatum's other hand that I have managed to tie up the arm hole in my hurried frenzy to make an adult size poncho fit a 4 year old in a rain storm. Poor thing is yelling at me trying to stick her arm out the neck hole. Just as we get to the Prudential Center, the sky clears up and it stops raining. We realize we didn't eat any dinner so I run in to the store and grab some snacks and we get on the duck tour and off we go. Whew!

The Duck Tour was great! Took us through the streets giving the history and some funny stories of Boston. About 30 minutes into the ride, Tatum falls asleep and about 45 minutes into the trip, so does Sydney. The little boy sitting next to us does too. Kind of an expensive nap. Poor kids are so tired. But they wake up in time for the duck tour to drive right into the water and how cool was that!!! Kind of weird at first because this automobile is driving you around on the street and now it is driving you in the water. The Con-Duck-tor asks if any kids want to drive and Syd got to drive.

After the Duck Tour it is time for dinner, finally. Catch the Subway back to our car in the parking garage and back to the hotel to go to bed. We are tired.
