Forget the Hamburger (July 12th, 2008)

Tomorrow Syd leaves for camp. She is so excited!!! We are working on her list of items that she needs to pack and items that we are going to get at Walmart. We decide that she could use some travel size toothpaste, mouthwash, shorts, and t-shirts. After the wedding, we can go and get those last few items to pack.

The wedding is at 2:00 in Clarendon and we get all dressed up and ready for it. Pretty hot and humid day. Kids are excited to wear dresses and go to it. The wedding is for Jenna and Thomas. Jenna used to babysit for Sydney when she was little. Jenna looked beautiful and the color of the bridesmaids dresses was pale pink - very pretty. Blew tiny bubbles after the wedding, chatted with the guests, and were on our way to Walmart.

After Walmart, decided that we should go to Hamlin Beach after 6:00 for a picnic. It's free to get in after 6:00. Went to tops and got some hamburger. Hurried home to pack the cooler, get the dogs ready, and get everything else ready. Piled in the car and started the 8 minute ride to Hamlin Beach. The sky started to look darker and darker....hmmm. Wonder if it will rain?

Pulled into Area 3, lugged all of our stuff past the playground to our picnic table under the trees and felt some raindrops. Yep it will rain....then downpour!

This is just about the time Dave looks at me and asks "did you happen to grab the hamburger out of the refrigerator?" I then say "no, didn't you say you were going to make the patties at home and put them in the cooler?" We just stand there for a moment and stare out into the area where the rain is pouring down on the pretty new playground Tatum keeps asking to go play on. We look over at the dogs tied to the picnic table and the kids just standing there, huddled under the tree.

I remember there is a poncho in my backpack and dig it out, grab the keys and volunteer to drive home and Dave keeps watch over the grill and the girls.

I get back, after making the patties at home, and the rain has just about stopped. Yay! Time to start cooking. Kids got to play in the sand and on the playground. We ate dinner just as it was turning dark and managed to squeeze in some smores. Packed up by the light of our cell phones.
