Sydney made dinner (June 18th, 2008)

Dave and I are always reading to the kids. Every night before bed, in the living room, in the car, waiting in offices for appointments, etc. I'm often yawning my way through the bedtime stories, but we do it.

Well, Syd is now at the age where she reads to herself. She reminds me a lot of Dave. They both love to start a book, get about halfway through it and put it down. A few days/weeks later, she totally forgets what book she was reading and then starts a new one. Or she decides that she doesn't feel like finishing it. This kind of thing drives me crazy. They both just look at me like I'm nuts. I'm one of those types of people, if there is a numbered book series, I have to read it in order. Sweet Valley Twins, Babysitters Club, all were a numbered series and I read them all in order. It's probably just as well that the Berenstain Bears did not have specific numbers on them or I would have made my mother crazy trying to buy them in order.

In school, Sydney has to finish books, so I'm trying to teach her that it's fun to finish a book at home too. We made a chart and when she finished four books, she would be able to pick out the menu for dinner one night, help shop for it, and then help me prepare it. She did it! So we went shopping for taco ingredients, corn, and mandarin oranges. Last night she made our dinner. We even had green kool-aid and it was delicious! (we let Tatum help by microwaving taco shells).

After dinner they helped me paint primer on an old set of benches.
