The man that we bought our house from is this great guy. He's got some great stories (I'm smiling just thinking of one about his cat right now...now back to mine)
He also loves flower gardens. I don't just mean loves gardens, I mean LOVES gardens. Lots and lots of little ones all over the place. We would chat about how he had planted this over there and that over there and so on. I heard the word peony and daffodil come up in conversation a few time but didn't give it a whole lot of thought..........that is......until Spring.
Three distinct areas in our immediate front lawn started sprouting and sprouting all different types of daffodils. Some were light yellow, some were dark yellow, some were light and dark yellow, some were small, some were big, some were spiky, and so one. These are just the daffodils. Then we noticed that these daffodils were not just in the front lawn they were on the side of the house, the back of the house, down pathways, etc. Then came the tulips. Woweeeee!!!! They were everywhere and gorgeous!!! I especially love the two tone yellow and red ones under my magnolia tree. Sydney, Tatum, and I were out there every day cutting some flowers to bring in for my vases. They were taking them in to school, also. I can't even begin to describe the amount and variety of flowers that continue to pop up all over the place.
Then we really started noticing these patches of bushes all over the place. I pointed out the back and told Dave "I think that's where he said he planted a bunch of peonies." We look at each other....you mean all those little patches of bushes everywhere are peonies????? whoa!!! Sure enough...We have just about every color of peony at some place around the house. They really are pretty until that huge rainstorm beats them down and leaves a big mess all over the ground. Not so pretty anymore.
I think it was the lawn mowing that finally hit it's point with Dave and the want for a real front lawn for me. It was like watching a mouse in a maze - zig zagging all around the individual gardens, knowing he secretly wanted to mow them right down. (I of course would give the look, not in front of the girls you can't.) So we began to dig and dig and dig. It was a lot of work, digging those up!!! So, two months, 3 arguments, 1 lock myself out of the house, 1 new rake, lots of discussions about snails and how exciting it is to find each and every one, 15 trips with the 4-wheeler later, we are done!!!
We had topsoil delivered and spread the grass seed. And the grass is finally growing!!!!!!! yay!!!
