We have discovered that our new house sits on land that loves to grow blackberries....lots and lots of blackberries. Hmm....new house....isn't really new anymore. I keep saying new house, but we have lived there just about a year now. I could probably stop saying new house and clarify new to us house, not new as in just built.
We knew about the apples because the land used to be an apple orchard. We knew about the raspberries. We recently discovered rhubarb - thanks to Grandma Al's expertise. We found grapes and mini plums of some kind. We have three different types of cherry trees that the birds mostly got to first this year because of our super busy schedule. We even found chives.
But I would have to say that we have enjoyed the blackberries the most so far. They started ripening right around the time that softball and soccer ended and we finally had some evenings free at home. I think Dave noticed them when he was mowing the lawn and took the girls out to pick a few and it has become an evening event ever since. We hurry through dinner almost every night so we can get out there and pick them.

Usually during the picking of the blackberries we happen upon at least one unsuspecting rabbit that the girls start quietly walking up to and then run full speed at to see how close they can get to it. The next part is trying to figure out where the rabbit went into and hoping to see it peak back out, which for some reason it never does.....hmmmm.

Us ladies often get our hair tangled while digging way in to get those huge blackberries that are hiding under leaves. Tatum and Syd are really good at looking up underneath to find the hiding ones.

We have made muffins, cobbler, and sauce for our french toast. Yummm!!!! We all have the scratches on our arms and hands from the prickers too. Ouch those things hurt. If you are out and about and hear "oh I found some big juicy ones hiding under those leaves"......"ouch!!" ...."oooooh. my hair is stuck again"..."mom, can you untangle my shirt"...."shhhh, it's a rabbit" or "ouch!!man those prickers hurt!!!" - it's probably us picking blackberries - again.
