It is amazing that in the last few years the how the area towns have really spruced up the welcome centers for the visitors that travel the canal and happen to stop by each little small town.
I happen to cross the Erie Canal twice a day on Main Street in Brockport. About 1-2 times a week I see the line of cars backed up before I even see the bridge is up letting a boat pass by. It is very rare that I am the first car in line when the light turns to red and crossing bars go down and we get front row seat for the bridge going up (ever so slowly) and the boat going under.

This can be a little annoying when it happens before 7:30 A.M. and I am already running late for work. I'm not really sure why there are boats out that early needing to have the bridge raised because they must know that each person in each of those cars is tapping the steering wheel looking at their clock because most are on their way to work.

it just so happens that this day we were on our way home from work with no plans for the evening and camera in hand with our front row seat to the bridge raising. We even saw one kid run up the stairs and across the bridge while it was raised, which led right into the discussion that I had better not see either on of them ever doing that.
